Filmtrain: Program Description and Goals

Historically, producers trained under major Hollywood studios. Because of the advent of videotapes and later DVDs and Internet, resurgence of independent production has grown exponentially leaving aspiring producers without the benefit of that training.

Film schools should offer to teach students the technical and creative skills that filmmakers must posess, as well as how to establish professional contacts. Our film training provides an opportunity to nurture young talent and to build a local media community that will reach national or international markets. Students will hone skills of acting, script writing, script breakdown and budgeting. Every student will learn about what directors, editors, unit production managers, art directors, assistant directors and directors of photography do, and they will gain experience in each of these fields. We believe that all successful producers have to be familar with the most important techniques and practices within these professions, since it is the only way they can overcome daily hurdles and they can effectively act, write, plan and manage a movie production. They will learn to work with the different departments of motion picture production and learn to manage and enhance their interdependence.

Our program will train movie makers by making a feature motion picture and affording the opportunity to learn by rotating the student (future producer) to learn all aspects of motion picture producing. The rotating will allow students to a more complete understanding of departments and their interdependence on each other. Likened to an Orchestra conductor who can play many of the instruments in the band.
